Proofreading & Copyediting
What types of content do you review?
We’ll review all types of content as long as it does not incite or seek to invite negativity on others. Our approach is to:
1. Find all the errors (including syntax, spelling, punctuation, grammar);
2. Ensure there is consistency throughout the document (including in structure and tone);
3. Check the messaging and intent are clear.
What is the timeframe for your proofreading and copyediting service?
Unless otherwise agreed, Proof My Content endeavours to complete its services within four business days for work requests under 10,000 (ten thousand) words. This timeframe does not include any new work that is requested or added to the original written content. The timeframe of four business days starts when we confirm the content to be reviewed has been received in full, and the document can be retrieved or opened without issue.
What if I need an urgent review of my content (i.e. less than 4 business days)?
We generally work on a first in first served basis so that we can give every customer the same service. If there is an urgency to your request then on a case-by-case basis we will try to accommodate your needs as long as it will not impact other customers before you.
How do you charge for the service and why do you charge it this way?
We charge $11.00 (including any taxes) for copyediting and proofreading every 100 (one hundred) words. We believe that, no matter your background and level of English proficiency, we’re going to charge you the same way, based on your actual black-and-white words. It removes the potential uncertainty that can come with having to ask for a quote. This system also rewards conciseness - in this regard - less is more.
However, please note, if it becomes apparent that the content is not making sense unless additional words need to be added, Proof My Content reserves the right to charge for those added words if they total at least 20% of the content. For example, if we reviewed 1000 words of content and found that it would not make sense unless we added 200+ words, we may charge you for those extra 200+ words.
Do you use AI?
No. We believe that creating content - whether it be for your website, advertising, shopfront, book or article - is about creating a connection. Whilst AI can do things to manipulate or ‘clean up’ your content it can also remove what makes you unique. We prefer not to work with AI because we love elevating content while preserving the uniqueness of you and your business, brand, flavour and style.
Furthermore, AI may tout that it already has the capability of creating content to reflect your unique style, that is, to appear as you, based on some examples of content that you input to it. Our question is, what then happens to this data that you’ve now fed into the program, or web? Have you unknowingly permitted it to be publicly available or available to certain unknown entities? If so, what would they do with it? Are there laws currently to protect how that data is used and to prevent misuse, such as someone trying to pass off as you, sounding like you, to others that you are in contact with?
Do you copyedit and proofread content that has already been created using AI but make it ‘sound’ more like my or my business’ style?
Yes, we can. We will charge $22 per 100 words for this. The reason we charge more is because this would not be a simple copyedit and proofreading task; it would require additional work in research and review to edit what AI has done, in order to make the content look and feel like how you or your business would actually sound.
Do you fact check our content?
Yes, we can. We will charge $22 per 100 words for this to reflect the additional word in research and review to make sure that the content reflects current (publicly available) knowledge. Source references will also be provided to you. Please note that these sources will be what is publicly available online, as we do not pay for subscriptions to access specific subject matter material or expertise.
How do we pay for the service?
Unless otherwise agreed, Proof My Content will invoice customers upon completion of every 1000 (one thousand) words of reviewed content. Invoices will be sent and payable via secure electronic bank transfer or PayPal. Please note, any additional 1000 words of reviewed content will not be released until previous invoices have been paid.
Is there any content you do not review?
Proof My Content reserves the right to refuse to offer its services at any point in time if it becomes apparent in our opinion that the content contains wording that may be considered illegal, dangerous, unethical, or immoral. This can include our right to decline offering our services if we form the view that the document may contain plagiarised content, advocates racism or discrimination, or is deemed hateful, threatening, abusive, or insulting.
Design & Editing
How does it work?
Simply email marywillproofmycontent@gmail.com or upload files using the Contact Form with your editable design and describe to us what you’re looking for to add to and improve on it. We will then send you some drafts to review. Please note the drafts will include a watermark to protect our copyright of the edited image. Copyright of our edited images only transfers to you once we’ve received payment for the service. To be clear, copyright of the original design you send to us remains with you, we assume copyright of images we have edited until we’ve received payment.
How do we pay for the service?
When you’re happy to receive a finalised version of the mock-up, we will send you an invoice for payment ($55 if we’ve edited an existing design and $99 if we’ve created a design). Once we have received the payment, we release the image to you with all watermarks removed. Please note we do need to receive, or see proof of, payment before we can release images.
